Hive Attachment
alaindustrial:hive_attachment
Summary
The Hive Attachment is a "jar": a glass jar on a small steel shelf, pressed against a vanilla beehive or bee nest. It does nothing by itself and takes no energy: the jar shows the hive's honey, and the copper hexagonal funnel on its lid is the dock where the apiary drone from the Apiary Station arrives. For the station to know about the attachment, the attachment is written onto the Apiary Map.
Mini-example. Put the attachment on the side of a hive (not on the side the bees fly out of), right-click the attachment with the apiary map — it is written down. Put the map into the station: when the jar fills up, the lid and the green lamp light up, and a drone flies over to it.
Placement
| Rule | What happens |
|---|---|
| Support | a block from the #minecraft:beehives tag that has the HONEY_LEVEL property (vanilla beehive and bee nest; hives from other mods — if that mod added them to the tag itself) |
| Face | the three side faces and the top; not the front face (the hive's: the bees fly out and in through it, and a block with collision there would lock them in) and not the bottom |
| In front of an entrance | it cannot be placed in the cell right in front of the entrance of any neighbouring hive — it would lock that hive's bees in too |
| How many per hive | one: a second attachment cannot be placed on the same hive, on any face |
| Support gone | the hive is broken or turned to face the attachment, or a hive is placed next to it with its entrance into the attachment's cell — the attachment drops as an item |
The attachment is placed by looking at a face of the hive, like a sign on a wall: it "presses" against the face you clicked.
Operation
- Shows the hive's honey level 0–5: the jar fills together with the hive. The level is taken from the state of the neighbouring hive and updates when the hive changes state (a bee brought nectar, the honey was taken). A full jar (level 5) lights up its lid, and the green lamp turns on.
- Drone dock. The apiary drone lowers its stinger into the funnel from above and pumps the jar out: its level drops in steps 5 → 0 during docking. The honey is taken from the hive at the end of docking: the hive's level resets to 0 just as when harvesting over campfire smoke, and the bees stay in the hive — they do not fly out and do not get angry. Details are in the station's spec.
- Self-recovery. While pumping is in progress, the attachment does not mirror the hive's level (a bee may top up nectar in the middle of pumping — the jar still drops all the way down). If docking is cancelled, the level is taken from the hive again right away; if the station disappears in the middle of pumping, after ~60 ticks the attachment takes the level from the hive on its own.
- No energy, no inventory, no screen.
- The attachment gives no comparator signal: a comparator already reads the honey level from the hive itself.
Energy
Neither consumes nor transfers energy.
Interface
No screen. Right-click with an empty hand shows a line above the hotbar: the hive's honey level. Right-click with the apiary map writes the attachment down, Shift+right-click crosses it out (see the Apiary Map).
Block Properties
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Shape | a jar 6 px thick: on a side face, a 6×14.5×10 px box against the hive's face; on the top, the same jar standing upright (6×13.5×10 px); collision follows the same box; not an occluder |
| Model | 6 levels × 2 layouts (side, top); the glass is a separate translucent material, the honey is opaque and sits 0.5 px away from the glass; level 5 — glowing lid and green lamp (emissive faces, the block itself emits no light) |
| Orientation | facing — the face of the hive the attachment is pressed against: four sides and the top |
| Hardness | 2.0 |
| Blast resistance | 3.0 |
| Tool | pickaxe; drops itself |
| Piston | breaks the attachment (it drops) |
| State | facing, honey_level 0–5 (mirror of the neighbouring hive), draining (pumping in progress — mirroring paused) |
The shape is built once per face when the class loads (ADR-023), not in.
Recipes
On a crafting table: iron plate ×2, a glass pane (the jar) and a honeycomb above it. The recipe unlocks when the player has a honeycomb.
Progression
- Placed once the player has an apiary and an Apiary Station.
- The drone brings liquid honey straight away — it needs no Honey Centrifuge. From the station's tank the honey goes through pipes into the Bottling Machine (bottles) and the Polymerizer (honey block).
