Silver Chest
alaindustrial:silver_chest
Summary
The Silver Chest is a storage block with 45 slots (5 rows of 9) — one whole row more than the Iron Chest. It uses no energy; it's just a bigger place to keep your stuff.
Mini-example: Iron Chest full of ore? Upgrade it in place: Shift+right-click it with the Chest Upgrade: Iron → Silver for +9 slots, and nothing needs repacking.
It looks like a proper 3D chest with an animated lid (same shape as vanilla, but silver-coloured) and the same metallic open/close sound as the iron chest.
Inventory
Takes any items — 45 slots in 5 rows of 9. Shift-click moves stacks between the chest and your inventory.
| Slots | Accepts | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | any items | 45 (5 rows × 9) |
Interface
A normal container window — no energy or progress bars, just the storage grid and your inventory below it.
Double Chest
Two silver chests placed side by side, facing the same way, merge into one double chest of 90 slots — following the vanilla placement rules exactly: without sneaking the new chest joins a matching neighbour automatically, sneak-clicking the side of a lone neighbour attaches to it deliberately, and sneak-placing elsewhere keeps it single. Different tiers never merge.
- The double's window shows 6 rows; the rest are reached with the scrollbar on the right (like the storage module's warehouse window). Shift-click reaches the hidden rows too.
- Lid and sound are shared: both halves lift the lid together and the opening sound plays once, from the seam.
- Automation sees the double as one container: a hopper, dropper or item pipe that hits a full half continues into the other.
- Breaking one half reverts the other to a single chest; each half spills only its own contents. An open double window closes when either half is broken.
- A stock display frame on either half shows the combined total.
Along with the doubles, every tier gained two vanilla conveniences: a comparator reads the chest's fullness (a double reads combined, the same from either half), and the chest can be waterlogged like a vanilla one.
Block Properties
A short chest block (like all vanilla chests). Any pickaxe breaks it; it drops itself and spills its contents.
| What | Value |
|---|---|
| Shape | short column (like vanilla chests) |
| Tool | pickaxe (any tier) |
| Drops itself | yes |
Recipes
Crafted at a workbench: an Iron Chest in the center, surrounded by 8 silver ingots — the same "previous tier + 8 ingots" pattern as the iron chest.
Crafting does not carry the contents over: the chest goes into the recipe empty, and whatever it held spills out when you break it. To skip the repacking, use the in-place upgrade (section below).
In-place upgrade
The Chest Upgrade: Iron → Silver turns a placed iron chest into a silver one right where it stands: Shift+right-click the chest with it. Every item stays in its slot; the anvil name, facing and waterlogging are kept, and the new slots are added as empty rows at the bottom. A double chest is upgraded whole, both halves at once, and that takes two upgrades. Crafting at a workbench cannot do this (see "Recipes").
Progression
The chest line goes: vanilla copper chest (27) → Iron Chest (36) → Silver Chest (45) → Gold Chest (54) → Electrum Chest (81).
